Improvement of noise reduction technology with 3D DNR

The chip in the camera is constantly picking up noise from interference and by-products produced by other circuits and electronic components within it. These artifacts noise can translate in images and video as fine static, snow or fuzzy images.

DNR (Digital Noise Reduction) is a method by which removes the camera imager digital noise of the image. 3D DNR is a progress of this technology that allows the sound of the picture, even in low light conditions even more effective being filtered.

There are two types of noise that affect your security cameras-salt and pepper noise and Gaussian noise.

Kinds of noise

Salt and pepper noise is produced when a CCD imager overheated or can be produced by dust particles in the camera. The artifacts randomly occur and no color relationship with the surrounding pixels. So, this noise appears as dark and white spots in video recordings.

Gaussian noise is produced by arbitrary interference generated by the movement of electricity by means of the electrical components in the camera. The pixels are slightly from the original color of the objects in the scene. It is a random distribution of artifacts that makes everything in a captured scene seem soft and out of focus.

' Traditional ' DNR

Traditional DNR technology makes use of reducing temporal nose. Temporal noise reduction in principle compares a frame to the next and removes all small specs in each frame that do not match. The idea is that by mixing the frames, the General content of the noise in an image is reduced.

In general, traditional DNR removes only the noise and unwanted data found in the "front" of a scene. This means that only the objects on the foreground of the scene are processed in order to reduce the Visual noise, and anything on the background remains unprocessed.

A good example of this is the view of a parking place in the night of a company. Objects that are closer to the camera, such as vehicles or people approaching the camera are "processed" to remove unwanted noise and snow. Each object in the background is plain for digital noise and snowy appears.

What is different about 3D DNR

3D DNR DNR traditional technology goes one step further. 3D DNR treats the traditional frame-by-frame noise reduction, but it also takes spatial noise reduction.

Spatial noise reduction compares a pixel with the adjacent pixels to detect and remove unwanted noise found within the frame. It processes the entire image to remove digital artifacts and grainy appearance better preserving image clarity and sharpness.

So in our example, the entire scene is processed so that each part of the image is clear and free of noise.

Advantages of 3D DNR

The benefits of 3D DNR are very similar to those of standard DNR.

First, 3D DNR delivers an even cleaner signal than DNR, resulting in more disk to save space-so you many more video proof on your hard drive can store.

Next, cameras equipped with 3D DNR technology provide sharper, more accurate images, making it easier to identify suspects.

Finally, 3D DNR technology makes it easier for your camera to distinguish between real movement and image noise-making your DVR efficiently in motion-detection-especially in low light conditions.
